Oh my PS3!

9 02 2010

So my little brother James just moved in last week from Newfoundland. He is really enjoying Ottawa so far. He has been here visiting before so he knows the pace of the big city and he has already begun exploring downtown. He has passed out resumes like crazy and is now waiting for some call backs. Since waiting around can become pretty boring he went out and bought a PS3. Needless to say our cable hasn’t been since last week.

I was never really into video games (besides Super Mario Bros. and Tetris on my old school Nintendo) and I wanted to see what it was all about. So I asked James to teach me how to play. Like I said, I used to play Nintendo – two buttons and a direction pad, so the process of learning a controller that has 14 buttons was challenging to say the least. I started off with a fairly easy game, Little Big Planet, and it was pretty good. It was kind of the same thing over and over but I think it was the perfect game for me to start with.

Then James started playing a game called Uncharted 2. He described it as being National Treasure meets Die Hard. I liked that description! So I watched him play for a bit and it was awesome!! I decided that I wanted to learn how to play and asked him if he thought I was ready for something like that – like he was my Playstation trainer or something. (Well I suppose he is really when you think about it – but that’s besides the point…) So I got up bright and early the next day ready for my next session. James was ready to be frustrated by the fact that I was a “noob” but he took it well. It took me a while to learn how to move my body with one controller and my sight with the other. Also I couldn’t shoot and walk at the same time for a while. But after hours of practice I was getting better. I really don’t have anything to compare it to but I really like the game and suggest it to everyone. James got the PS3 on a Friday…it’s Monday and I have finished the game… Yes I spent my whole weekend playing Playstation. I figure it’s alright because I have never played it before till now. I don’t know maybe it’s the video game lover inside of me justifying  my new addiction : )   Thanks James!

Awesome CD!

5 02 2010

This is a cd that was brought to my attention from a client project that I am working on. It has some really great tunes by some awesome Canadian artists. It’s so great that these artists are getting their music out there. Some are known and some are less known. Some of the artists include: Harpoon, Amanda Rheaume, Push Incorporated, and The Termights. So support Canadian artists!! You can pick up one of these cd’s at: Chapters on Rideau Street, Dave’s Drum Shop, and Figure 8 and Hockey One. You can also buy it from CD Baby. I hope you like it as much as I do!

So many accounts…

28 01 2010

Since delving into the world of social media (thanks to Sue Murphy) I have signed up for every site I can find just trying to gain a presence on the web…and it’s completely overwhelming! There are so many user names and passwords to keep up with. I can’t even put a number on the amount of accounts that I am currently accessing. It’s insane!

Every time I turn on my computer I find myself spending a half an hour to an hour just checking up on all of my accounts, when all I wanted to do was check the movie times. Not to mention that I spend 3 or 4 minutes just trying to sign in to certain accounts; I have to sift through all the usernames and passwords that I know I use to try to match the correct username with the correct password. It is so tempting to use the same username and password for every account I have! I really wish we lived in a world where internet security was not an issue. When is someone going to develop some sort of platform where I can access all the pages which hold my accounts? I really hope it is soon because the bookmark tabs in my browser toolbar are starting to get out of control!! Help!!

If you like Pina Coladas…and Nine Inch Nails

21 01 2010

If any of you are into Nine Inch Nails at all I highly suggest you check out the huge multimedia production of the Lights in the Sky Tour. After their Lights in the Sky tour in 2008 NIN’s Trent Reznor released raw video footage of three different shows for free use. From the fan edited video a team known as ‘This One Is On Us’ has put together a professional-quality 1080p video of the whole concert. They are releasing this video in formats from DVD Blu Ray to iPod and YouTube. And best of all…it’s free. Check out ‘Another Version of the Truth: The Gift‘. I got a chance to see this show live when Nine Inch Nails came to Ottawa and it was amazing. The multimedia effects and interaction was very impressive. Here is the quick link to the playlist on YouTube. Enjoy!

I heart typography

20 01 2010

I really love typography. Typography as a design element is so important so I really put a lot of thought into it when designing. It is really difficult sometimes to integrate good typography elements without it feeling overbearing or forced. Check out this website that I found that is everything typography.

Hey!

19 01 2010

Hello world! Just started this blog…which is going to be a blast by the way. It’s rough around the edges right now but will be under way as soon as I get a break from school. Speaking of breaking from school – spring break will be here soon!!! Thinking about going to Toronto to visit some friends. Should be a good time! So I will leave you with a question for anyone who is savvy enough to answer…I am thinking about getting an iPhone. What do you think? What size should I get? Should I go with a 3G or a 3Gs? Let me know…
